Research on CBD and anxiety has generally looked at cannabis as a whole product, not as CBD as a standalone compound. Some studies suggest that it can help with anxiety: like this 2011 study that suggests CBDcan reduce social anxiety or this 2015 review that says CBD could be promising for many forms of anxiety. It’s also important to consider whether the CBD comes from the cannabis plant and therefore may include THC, a cannabinoid that for some, induces anxiety. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of dozens of non-psychoactive cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Cannabidiol, and all the other cannabinoids, were patented by the United States Government in 2003 as neuroprotectants and antioxidants (Patent No. 6,630,507). Cannabinoids are characterized by their ability to act on the cannabinoid receptors that are found throughout the body. CBD and other cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds that display potent anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. They can promote the body’s healthy regulation of the central nervous, immune, and endocannabinoid systems.
But is there a possibility of CBD oil getting you high? Well, CBD oil comes from the extracts of hemp plants, which do contain very low levels of THC. If the extraction method used to get the CBD oil cuts corners or is done incorrectly, though, there is a chance that THC levels will be great enough to produce a high. This is where we can refer back to point number one – affordability vs quality!
Generally speaking cannabis and all related products are classed as a schedule 1 drug, meaning they are illegal at the federal level. However, specific states have passed laws permitting the use of marijuana and CBD oil, with each state having its own laws on qualifying conditions. This means that if you live in a medical state and suffer from a debilitating condition, then you likely can obtain CBD oil or even cannabis flower.

I use this example quite often and to answer your question, it takes less than you think. Depending on your size and build, you could experience relief with as little as 20mg a day. Start small and build up until you find what works best for you. Taking a ton of CBD wont do anything because your body can only use so much in a 24hr period. We gave the highest points to companies that use a CBD distillate for their tinctures. The process of distillation creates an extract that is pure on a molecular level. There are people who think distillate is too pure, and that a full spectrum decarb produces a more effective tincture. But in light of the inconclusive evidence, we prefer a distillate. The process allows for a high degree of control as to the finished product. It’s also odorless and tasteless, so those tinctures tend to taste better.

Transparent test results that are easily accessible also help customers ensure they’re looking at data that’s relevant to the product they’re actually ordering. Past performance is no guarantee of future results, and a good grade for one batch of product doesn’t always translate to the next round. That’s why responsible testers don’t stop at one good result, but continually update customers with the latest data available on their products.

CBD in all forms has enormous potential. Hemp also contains fatty acids which have been known to be great for the body. Unlike its marijuana counterpart, hemp contains high quantities of CBD and low volumes of THC for which its grown. While marijuana is illegal to consume in many states, hemp is slowly becoming more popular and more states are legalizing the uses of hemp oil for its citizens.
There are over 85 cannabinoids that make up the marijuana plant. The most popular and well known of these is tetrahydrocannabinol, or better known as THC. Is it full-spectrum? Full-spectrum is the use of the whole hemp plant vs. an isolate which extracts the CBD from the plant. Using marketing terms like “pure” and “all natural,” isolates are sometimes not hemp at all and synthesized in a lab. While the efficacy of full-spectrum is debated in the scientific community, anecdotes and a study in Israel favor full-spectrum. In addition to potential benefits, there’s another reason you should be buying the whole plant: contamination. Chen notes that isolates are harder to trace back to origin and can be straight-up fake. Overseas lab-made isolates are cheaper than domestic versions, making the potential for contamination high. Utah recently grappled with synthetic CBD when 52 people became sick from an isolate. While isolates can be legitimate (FDA-approved Epiliodex is an isolate), you’re going to have to spend more time researching the brand’s products and practices. Put it this way, if you could get your vitamin C from Sunny D or fresh squeezed OJ, which would you prefer?
All this talk about THC lands us nicely in the whole “Full Spectrum vs. Pure Isolate” debate. Once you begin shopping for CBD products, you’ll notice a lot of jargon that gets thrown around without much explanation. Now that we’ve introduced THC into the conversation, we can talk about the difference between, and relative benefits of, Full Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate (and the lesser-known contender: Broad Spectrum).

CBD may be best known for its relaxing, calming effects. CBD reduces autonomic arousal, having the inverse effect of THC on the body. CBD’s anti-anxiety effect is why many in the cannabis community talk about how CBD relieves paranoia, although that is not scientifically proven yet. CBD is also known for its anti-nausea and pain relieving effects. It really depends on why your body’s specific needs and the quantity in which you take CBD.


CBD isolate will not show up on any drug test because it’s not made from the whole plant; traces of THC are within the legal limit & individual states are now passing laws to protect employees who are medical marijuana patients. It’s changing constantly & many states have patient advocacy groups that help new patients navigate the big learning curve.
